Spurrier: Where is he REALLY headed?

Steve Spurrier’s name has come up as Alabama and Miami sift through the coaching heap to find new heads for their programs. However, there is another opening out there that has very close ties to Spurrier that is also in the mix:

The rumors continue to circulate this week in Johnson City, Tenn. (SCIENCE HILL HIGH School), that the school’s favorite son, Steve Spurrier, will be its next football coach.

Spurrier just signed a contract extension with South Carolina.

"Keith Turner, Science Hill’s athletics director, said Spurrier fans should not read too much into the coach’s decision to continue recruiting for USC and to lead the Gamecocks in the Liberty Bowl late this month. Turner said he could wait for a decision about his new football coach well into the summer."

When Spurrier’s contract was extended on Saturday he said he was happy at S. Carolina and he wasn’t interested in any of the open college jobs. He never did mention not being interested in the Johnson City opening, which apparently is further fueling the fire.

Apparently the AD at S. Carolina is aware of the situation:

“Miami and Alabama are one thing; Science Hill is quite another,” said Eric Hyman, USC’s athletics director. “I hope this does not mean we have to renegotiate Steve’s contract again.”

And the final piece to the puzzle, according to Turner is this:

“He added that it might not be a coincidence Spurrier has plans to play golf in Johnson City this summer.”
